The Golden Combo in Exercise for Longevity and Health
View Post
Ever wonder what the best exercise is for health and longevity? I share the golden combo in exercise for overall fitness and being healthy throughout your life. Does it matter which workout you do? Let's chat about strength and cardio, shall we? Also, we talk about the importance of Zone 2 training :)

Does it matter which workout you do?

The short answer is no and here's why.

It matters so much more that you do a workout than which type of workout you do

For the optimizers: strength and cardio combo is the golden combo.

Best combo of exercise: (Zone 2 + HITT + Strength training) and LISS

You need a combo of strength training and cardio, LİSS (low intensity aerobic activity) where you can hold a semi strained conversation and you're going at 70 or 80 percent of your max. That's different (bpm) for everyone bec we all have different zones. So for me that's probably 130 heart rate. (Shows why you need cardio combined with ST); ST is gold standard. This combo will help you Access your own internal fat stores for energy and build muscle.

If you're oscillating between a super challenging workout or program versus a program that is not as hard, you might be better off choosing the program that's not super hard.

Super hard program is good for when you're training for something specific and want to perform optimally.

For everyday heath and fitness it matters so much more that you do a workout. Any workout.

There's no such thing as the best workout.

The best workout is the one you do.

If you do a workout you enjoy, you're so much more likely to do the workout daily.

Consistency is key.

You can make any workout as tough as you want it to be. It's as tough as you push it. So on some days you want to dial up the intensity you can, on other days you might want to mod down and that's totally fine. You don't need to feel pressure to go at your max every workout.

In fact going at your max constantly might cause unwanted fatigue or even injury. So it's better to do the workout, listen to your body and temper expectations accordingly.

So the takeaway here is:
1) the workout you enjoy is the best workout
2) consistency is key (more important that you do a workout than which workout you do)
3) if you are optimizing, the golden combo is strength and cardio liss (and there are so many types of workouts you can choose from to achieve those two things)
